I'm still here

I'm terribly sorry that I've been so quiet. It's hard to believe that it's been so long.

We had all the kids (and the two darlings) for the full week of Thanksgiving, which meant it took me days to recover.

I've done very little sewing, unfortunately.

I will post a picture of what I've been working on: a little flannel quilt for the nights that Ryan and I sit outside watching the stars!!

Today was a momentous day for me:
I had to put my 15 yr old chocolate lab to sleep. Jake was getting so old and frail that it was going to be inevitable. I have never had to do this before and I had wonderful support from my friends.  It's wonderful to share our lives with our pets but so sad that their lives aren't long.

I hope everyone is enjoying a happy and relaxed holiday season.

Much love to you,
Randy

  2. Dear Randy, sorry about your loss. I know he probably followed you everywhere, like my dog does. It will take awhile to adjust to not having him there. At least he will not suffer any more. He lived to be a good age in dog years. My dog taught me how to love unconditionally. A little part of him will always be in your heart. God Bless

  3. I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your canine companion, Randy. I've only gone through that once, as a young teen, but I still recall the grief our entire family felt. My heart goes out to you!
Sounds like you had a very fulfilling Thanksgiving, and I understand the need to recuperate. : )
I look forward to seeing the "star gazing" quilt. Sounds like fun!

  4. Ohhh, I am so sorry; I empathize with you. Our little darling Jou-Jou had to be euthanized also (epilepsy--nowthey have pretty much bred it out, I think). I hope that the coming holiday season will help you to overcome your grief and allow you to recall all the happy memories that Jake gave your family...my best, hugs, Julierose

  6. I'm so sorry about your pup. I just went through that three weeks ago with my 15 year old dog. May memories of all the great times you've had over the years abundantly come to mind.

  7. I am so sorry for your loss! I had to do the same thing with my 17 yr old cat this summer, so I can empathize the pain you are feeling.

  8. I'm sorry to hear about Jake. He was a sweet dog, he had a preety long run for a dog of his size a testament to your love and care. I will miss his fine spirit at our retreats. hugs, CW

  12. Randy ~ sorry for your loss ~ our dog is such a part of our family and I've had to make the journey you're on before so I can understand the difficulty. Think about Jake being young and healthy and at Rainbow's Bridge where you'll see him again someday ... our pets "tell" us when it is time to leave ... their love is unconditional and the BEST thing we can do as their caretaker is to "listen" to them and let go when the time comes. I think you did that and as hard as it might be right now your heart tells you it was the right thing and the right time. God bless! Linda
